Facebook link

Happy New Year to all!

Check out the facebook link if you are able.  I am adding web content here as I get time but I do have lots of content to share that is already on the Facebook page.

Please spread these links to everyone who is concerned about losing our county roads and wishes to preserve them for local and toursist's enjoyment.  I will one day get all the info on this blog but in the meantime, enjoy your county roads, know where you are and use them responsibly.

Spotlight on Powell County, home of Natural Bridge State Park

Somewhere around 1940, county road inventories were conducted by request of the United States Congress.  Powell County, Kentucky happened to list Sand Lick Road #57 on this official county road inventory and its beauty and inspiration drew overlanders from all across the nation for decades.  This road was obliterated in 2006 by the US forest service using state funds from the Kentucky Land Heritage Conservation Fund, derived from "nature license plate" sales.  All the other roads are open on the map and reopening Sand Lick Road in its entirety is the goal of the county and public who are aware of the illegal closures.  Note: the broken double lines represent county roads, the single line county trails.

This map shows all the byways, please get out and enjoy this piece of cultural heritage of Powell County Kentucky.  More to follow...
